Skateistan – International Women’s Day 2021

International NGO Skateistan released a short video celebrating their Afghan skaters of the year: Belqisa, Saeeda, Arezo and Marzia. The original footage was submitted as entries for the Asian Skateboarder of the Year Award, which recognised many of Skateistan’s Afghan skaters. All four girls have come up through Skateistan’s programs and are now educators or volunteers in the organisation, helping others to improve their skating, defying expectations in a country where sport is prohibited for many girls.

To accompany the video, Skateistan has also released a photo series by Juliette Cassidy, who visited who visited the Skate School in Mazar-e-Sharif at the end of 2020. We have included a selection below.
