Vans x Hackney Bumps Checkerboard Day 2021 – film

As part of its plans for Checkerboard Day 2021, Vans donated $50,000 to Hackney Bumps, the grassroots community skatepark in east London renovated by volunteers during the first lockdown last spring. The Hackney Bumps crew invited people to submit designs for a new obstacle to be built in time for Checkerboard Day (November 18). In the end the three winning designs were combined. The resulting obstacle – a long red slappy curb on top of a bank with hips either end a bump at one end – was finished just in time for the Checkerboard Day celebrations, which we sent filmmaker Dan Magee to document (as well as the pour a few days earlier).
